House by an oak tree
"Someoone's sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago"
The extensions main ambition is to invite the old oak tree to be one with the house.
The intervention is a complete make-over throughout three floors, introducing common rooms, wet rooms sleeping rooms and sauna. The complete gable wall is in clear and milky white glass sheets, staging the oaks foliage as an ever-changing light and shadow theatre.
At the heart of the living space, a handmade, artistic Kachel oven is placed, connecting the old and the new, introducing a heat source, a gathering place for the long winter evenings.
"Whoever has learned how to listen to trees no longer wants to be a tree. He wants to be nothing except what he is. That is home. That is happiness." Herman Hesse
