RS Noatun Accommodation

Horten, Norway

2022

The accommodation building is a central piece in the expansion of the Norwegian Sea Rescue campus at Noatun. It offers the possibility for course and summer camp participants to lodge on campus during their stay.

The building has a central location on the Noatun campus, with orientation and proximity to the campus sea channel on one side and the forest on the other. A low CO2 footprint is achieved by using a building system based on CLT as core of the building and glulam for the outer balcony framework.

A key element in the design is the external circulation and terraces that acts as a continuation of the campus path system. The aim was to enable course attendees to meet and socialize in a generous balcony space that is physically and visually associated with the campus. At the same time, the room’s openness towards the balcony is flexible and at any given time, one can decide to call it a night and rest after a long day.
