Nitja
Centre for Contemporary Art

Lillestrøm, Norway

2020

The new Nitja Centre for Contemporary Art and its surrounding park will become part of the cultural quarter in central Lillestrøm and will enhance synergy with its surrounding public cultural attractions.

The compact building volume introduced, preserves most of the site and permits the development of a welcoming and playful city park. The building is orientated towards neighbouring buildings; the town hall, the train station and the main street. The building is slightly elevated above the park and by its public facades, invites the public in. The main floor is mostly transparent and has a seamless connection with the outside park. The exhibition rooms are located at the second floor, accessed by iconic staircase.
