Fjellparken Open-Air Stage
Flekkefjord, Norway
2025
Flekkefjord Municipality envisioned a new outdoor stage in Fjellparken, a place that could bring people together and serve as a cultural meeting point for the entire city.
The new open-air stage replaces an outdated structure with a robust timber construction that allows an efficient festival flow for the annual Fjellparkfestivalen while also functioning as a generous social meeting place. The project combines an outdoor performance arena with a compact heated core containing storage, kitchen, toilets and dressing rooms. This allows the building to support a wide range of activities throughout the year, from local concerts and volunteer-driven events to everyday use by school classes and kindergartens.
The building is a timber structure made of glulam, raised on slender columns at the edge of the rock overlooking the fjord. This light structure limits impact on the terrain while opening views across Flekkefjord, turning the stage and its surroundings into a natural viewpoint. The project integrates sustainability with social value, creating a low-impact timber structure that also serves as an inclusive public space for the community
